Frequently Asked Questions
What type of food is offered? What are the prices?
We offer breakfast, lunch, and weekend brunch serving unfussy dishes that spring from the melting pot of flavors that make New Orleans the most unique food city in America. From the perfect breakfast sandwich and hearty plates of eggs, grits and andouille sausage to an open-faced baked crab sandwich, a classic kale caesar, a warm crustless quiche and everything in between.
We have plenty of kid friendly options and we can accommodate different dietary restrictions including gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan.
What's the story behind Cafe Malou?
Owner Mani Dawes, a New Orleans native, has been running neighborhood restaurants for over 20 years, including the award-winning Manhattan tapas restaurant, Tía Pol. When Mani and her family moved to New Orleans from New York in 2014, they settled in the same part of Uptown where she grew up. Mani was ultimately inspired to create the place she had been hoping to find herself, a cozy daytime spot that serves as a hub of the community. When she discovered that the space next to Octavia Books, a stone's throw from her house, was available, she was fated to bring her vision to life.
